Frequently Asked Questions

Sodium-ion marine batteries, stabilizer power, generator-free anchoring — what owners actually ask us before a build.

What is a sodium-ion marine battery?

A sodium-ion battery stores energy using sodium ions instead of lithium ions. For marine use it offers lithium-class deep cycling and high thermal stability without lithium, cobalt, or nickel in the cell chemistry.

Is sodium-ion safer than lithium-ion on a boat?

Sodium-ion cell chemistry is inherently more resistant to thermal runaway than lithium-ion chemistries. As with any marine battery system, safe operation depends on pack design, BMS quality, and proper installation — which is why we engineer the whole system, not just the cells.

How long do sodium-ion batteries last on a boat?

Typical published figures for sodium-ion cells are roughly 3,000–6,000 cycles depending on the cell and depth of discharge — versus roughly 300–700 cycles for AGM under deep cycling. Actual service life depends on the vessel's load profile and installation.

Can a battery bank really run a gyro stabilizer?

Yes — with correct sizing. Stabilizer loads are high-draw and cyclic, which is exactly what deep-cycle sodium-ion banks are built for. We size the bank to the stabilizer model, duty cycle, and the rest of your house loads before quoting.

Can I run my boat at anchor without a generator?

For most vessels with properly sized banks and charging (alternator, solar, or shore), generator-free anchor operation is achievable for house loads. Whether your stabilizer can also run on battery depends on its draw and your bank — the sizing tool gives a first-pass answer.

Do sodium-ion batteries need special chargers?

They need a charge profile matched to the chemistry. Most modern programmable chargers, inverters, and DC-DC units can be configured correctly — we specify charging hardware as part of the system design.

Where does Salty Marine install?

Primary service area is South Florida — Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Key West. Kit and component orders ship nationwide, and remote engineering consult is available outside the travel radius.

How do I get a quote?

Use the pre-order form or the battery sizing tool. Tell us your vessel, stabilizer model (if installed), and what you're solving — we respond with an engineering answer, not a sales pitch.
